Minneapolis, Minnesota. 6pm, and I'm tearing my hair out after hours of waiting at the airport already. Having decided to head back to Michigan for niece Sage's first communion tomorrow, I had trouble getting out of Colorado Springs, due to winter weather that moved in overnight: we all wakened to snow and ice this morning, a stark contrast to the 60's and sunny we've been enjoying all week!
With any luck I'll catch a flight to Grand Rapids in a little more than an hour from now, and will be able to share in the weekend festivities there. We're all relieved that Sage's other grandmother's breast cancer surgery last week seems to have gone well; it'll be good to see her in person tomorrow.

Route 66 Stich Roadtrip, September 2009: The End of the Road
We made it! 1:30 pm found us on Ocean Boulevard, toasting our successful journey with pink champagne near the Will Rogers Memorial Highway marker in Santa Monica. Details and stats to follow soon.
In the meantime, we'll spend a couple of days with Don & Dianne in La Palma and June (Don & Dianne's daughter) & her husband Brian and their kids in Calabasas; then Friday begin heading east again, breaking up that trip with a nice 3-day weekend at June & Brian's place in Lake Havasu, Arizona, joined by Brian (Don & Dianne's older son) and his wife Lisa & their kids.
We'll all head out Monday; we're trying to figure out whether it's feasible to make the drive from Lake Havasu to Colorado Springs in a single, long day. I think it's perfectly do-able, with me driving the entire day, allowing Dad and Tom to alternate so that they each can rest for about half of it. Either way, we have plenty of time "in the bank," given that we originally had not planned to reach L.A. until this coming weekend -- and that not so long ago we were considering leaving Lake Havasu next Monday still westbound for L.A.! Any way you slice it, we're way ahead of schedule. Time now to relax and enjoy.
